Psalm 15 - Who Shall Dwell on Your Holy Hill?
1 O Lord, who shall sojourn in your tent? Who shall dwell on your holy hill?
2 He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart;
3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
3 who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend;
4 in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change;
5 who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.
This Psalm is a prime example of the Hebrew poetry that we discussed in our introduction to the Psalms last month. A question is asked and answered in the form of couplets. This Psalm not only praising God but also teaches the reader about holiness and how to come to God.
The Psalm asked a great question about those who want to have the approval of God, but David also gives the answer: Those who are Holy in Character, Speech, Conduct, Values, Integrity, and use of Money.
Notice the conclusion of this Psalm: “He who does these things shall never be moved.” That sounds a lot like 2 Peter 1:5-11, “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, 6 and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, 7 and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. 8 For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins. 10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”
Who can dwell in the Lord’s tent and holy hill? …EVERYONE OF US CAN! If we will just obey God and live holy lives according to His will…then we can meet God’s approval.
